How to reduce smoke from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) combustion
How to reduce smoke from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) combustion
1.Use flame retardant additives:
During the manufacturing process of PVC materials, adding flame retardants can significantly improve the fire resistance of PVC.
These flame retardants can slow down the spread of flames, reduce combustion smoke, and reduce the release of harmful gases.
The amount of flame retardant added needs to be adjusted according to the specific product and application scenario.
For example, molybdenum compound is an effective smoke-suppressing additive. Adding 2%-3% can reduce the amount of smoke produced by 30%-80%.
2.Install fireproof casing:
In the flammable parts of PVC pipes, fireproof casings can be installed for fireproofing. Fireproof casing can protect pipelines from the direct impact of external high temperatures and open flames, and effectively improve the flame retardant performance of pipelines.
3.Use smoke suppressants:
The use of specific smoke suppressants can reduce the smoke produced when PVC is burned. For example, molybdenum, ferrocene, FeCl2 and FeCl3 can be used as effective smoke suppressants.
Molybdenum compounds can form carbon residue with PVC and other resins during the combustion process, covering the surface of the polymer to achieve flame retardant and smoke suppression effects. Ferrocene can be converted into α-Fe2O3 during the HCl removal process of PVC, reducing the amount of carbon black formed.
4.Using metal hydroxides:
Metal hydroxides such as aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, etc., the aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide formed during the heating process have a large surface area, which can absorb smoke and dust and reduce smoke generation.
5.Using reduction coupling smoke-making agent:
Some low-valent transition metal compounds, such as copper compounds, can promote PVC cross-linking through reductive coupling, thereby reducing smoke generation.
Optimize recipes and processes:
By optimizing the formula and manufacturing process of PVC, the use of additives such as plasticizers can be reduced, thereby reducing the smoke generated during combustion.
